Maths Everywhere
We were very excited to work with Dr Sue Gifford on this project around Continuous Provision. The first session covered Number and the second Shape, Space and Measures and the theme of pattern awareness ran across both. Sue covered the fundamentals of Maths in the EYFS and how teachers could develop opportunities for children to engage with the maths both indoors and outdoors. In addition to the face to face sessions, we facilitated and funded participants observing each other and discussing best practice and created resources to share hub wide. These will be available on this website soon.
Sue is a Principal Lecturer in mathematics education at the University of Roehampton. She has researched early years maths education, working with practitioners and official bodies and has published and contributed to books and articles on primary and early years maths education.
Picture Books Project EYFS and KS1
Picture books can be a very useful resource to stimulate interest and expose mathematical concepts and ideas.
Teachers from both the EYFS and KS1 researched how picture books could be used best in these classes and presented their findings along with resources and activities they created in a twilight session.
